Simplicity 2223

Hey there! Time has flown by too quickly and here we are, halfway through summer, at the beginning of August. I figured maybe I should post a quick update with a few things I have made over the last four months. It has been a lot of pattern testing, strike sewing, and alterations for others. My make nine’s for me, Eric, and home are suffering. I am pretty sure I will not be able to make all the projects on my home make nine since a lot of them were quilts and I haven’t started a single one. It will be okay because I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for alterations. I am so close to being able to sew more for me and Eric, that I can taste it. In the meantime, let’s talk about a few of those recent makes though.

This lovely dress was a pattern test for Sew Chic’s new extended size range! I am so excited that there is real change happening to make indies more size-inclusive. The Southern Belle is the first plus-size pattern re-release and it is truly a stunner. It does take a lot of fabric at nearly 6 yards for each shell and lining, but you can’t beat that twirl factor! Plus, that lilac/blue iridescent shantung has been in my stash since 2005! Fourteen years!!!! How have I even been sewing long enough to have stash fabric that old?!?

Then there is this craziness! I sewed strikes for Knitorious in July and I got a Pikachu/Deadpool panel and Detective Pikachu print. I had the red double knit and yellow rib-knit trim in my stash. While not my normal style, I decided to go all out with color combos and it worked. This is the second bomber I have made from McCall’s 7100 in these past four months too. The first was using my precious Floral Wars and Porg panel also from Knitorious. Speaking of Knitorious, I also used the Magical Floral to make my niece a Sahara top from Bella Sunshine Designs (aff link). I also made her sister a version of the same pattern using dino prints from Twisted Needle Textiles.

The last thing I want to share is my pattern test for Bella Sunshine Designs. This is the new Hazel top from Bella Sunshine Designs (aff link) that just launched yesterday. It is a dolman sleeve that has the option to add ruching ties at the shoulder. I liked my tester version (white and navy) so much that I had to make a second. Both are rayon jersey knits. The white and navy piece is from Girl Charlee back when they still did the KnitFix bundles. The terra cotta with black floral is a recent purchase from Cali Fabrics. There is still a bit of it left in the shop, so get it while you can.

I also have a few more projects I stitched up for the Cali blog but I can’t share them just yet. Once they go live, I will share them on my Instagram page. They have been getting a lot of wear and I am excited to show them off. So, if you aren’t following me there, you should go do that now.

  1. Sarah, wow, gorgeous dress, such a wearable jacket, and the tops are so cute! Plus, I love that olive green jacket on the Califabrics page. Flowy dress, and what crisp details you did in that jacket. Can I be on your “sew for” list too? Oh, you said the list was too long? Darn!
